Cultural competitions are permissible if they increase a Muslim's understanding of their religion or provide permissible general knowledge. It is permissible to accept prizes from them, provided that the prizes are offered by a donor who does not aim for material profit. However, if the prize provider intends commercial profit, and the subscription fees exceed the usual, it is considered prohibited gambling. If the communication fees are normal, there is no harm in participating. The method of the competition itself is also permissible.
