What is the ruling on raising more than thirty cats and spending on them daily?

The basic principle regarding owning and raising animals is permissibility, unless there is evidence prohibiting it. Cats are not impure, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "They are not impure; they are among those who frequently circulate among you." And his saying: "Indeed, the cat is part of the household goods; it will not defile anything nor make it impure." Therefore, there is no harm in owning and raising them, provided their rights are fulfilled, especially if there is a need for raising them, such as to ward off insects. However, if raising them is for no religiously valid reason, then it is better to leave them, for a Muslim will be held accountable for his time and money on the Day of Judgment, and it is more befitting to spend money on feeding the poor Muslims.
