Do ongoing charities (ṣadaqāt jāriyah) performed by the family of the deceased, such as donating Qur'ans or providing water, reach the deceased and benefit them, or is the ongoing charity intended in the Hadith only that which the deceased himself initiated before his death? And is supplication (duʿāʾ) the only means by which a son can convey benefit to his father, or can charity and knowledge also reach the deceased from others? And what are the other means by which the family of the deceased can alleviate their burden or increase their good deeds?
When a deceased person dies, the reward for their deeds ceases, except for what is mentioned in the authentic hadith concerning the reward for their actions. Charity includes what the deceased person did and what was done on their behalf and dedicated to them as a reward. Thus, ongoing or intermittent charity performed by the deceased's family or others, the reward of which is dedicated to the deceased, reaches them. There are other means besides supplication through which family members and others can benefit the deceased.
