What is the reason a person feels that people are laughing at him or smiling at him sarcastically, even though he isn't wearing anything strange and finds nothing in himself that warrants ridicule, and how can he overcome this feeling which began years ago and has affected his social and religious life?
It is recommended to reassure the questioner and calm him, affirming that there is nothing in his situation that warrants surprise or laughter, and that what he feels may be due to an evil eye, envy, or a type of psychological whispering (waswas). He should increase his remembrance of Allah, recite the Quran, and perform شرعية (legitimate Islamic incantation). If the feeling does not subside, he should consult a trusted psychiatrist. He should also associate with righteous company, participate in da'wah (Islamic propagation) and educational activities, and occupy his time with what is beneficial. He should praise and thank Allah for His blessings, especially the blessings of faith, health, good creation, and good character. Regarding congregational prayer, it is obligatory in the mosque, and it is not permissible to abandon it due to these whisperings.
