Is it permissible to take revenge on whoever burned my house and car?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

One who is transgressed against may defend his property. And whoever is killed while defending his property is a martyr. The one who destroys property must compensate the owner for what was destroyed, either by its value if it is a fungible item, or by an equivalent item if it is a non-fungible one. If he refuses, his case should be referred to the competent authorities to compel him to do so. It is permissible to recover the right from him by any other means if possible (the issue of 'Al-Zafar' - taking one's right by force). As for burning his house and car, this is an act of corruption on earth, which is forbidden.
