What is the meaning of Allah Almighty’s saying: {Close friends on that Day will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous}?

The meaning of the verse is that friends who befriended each other in disobedience to Allah in this world will become enemies to one another on the Day of Resurrection, whereas friendship based on the fear of Allah will be everlasting in this world and the the Hereafter. Every friendship and companionship that is not for the sake of Allah will turn into enmity on the Day of Resurrection, except that which was for Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, for it endures as long as He endures.
