Is it permissible for a Muslim man to marry a Christian woman who remains in her faith?

It is permissible for a Muslim man to marry a chaste Kitābīyah (Jewish or Christian woman), based on the Almighty's saying: "And [lawful for you are] the chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture," and her conversion to Islam is not a condition. However, the conditions for marriage must be met, the most important of which are the permission of her guardian and the presence of witnesses. Her guardian can be from her own religious community, or their bishops, or a Muslim judge. Nevertheless, it is preferable to marry a righteous Muslim woman, because marrying a Kitābīyah is not without risks.
