Is filling a bathtub and immersing oneself in it to perform ghusl from ritual impurity considered contrary to the Sunnah or a waste of water? Is ghusl valid in this manner? And how can one cultivate awareness of Allah's watchful presence in secret and in public?

The sensation of muraqabah (mindfulness of God) stems from two things: the servant's awareness that Allah sees him and knows all his secrets, and the servant's realization of Allah's عظمه (Greatness) and قدره (Power), which instills fear and leads to mindful consideration of Allah in every step. The Salaf (early Muslims) agreed that muraqabah is the servant's knowledge that the Lord is aware of him and the continuation of this knowledge, and that it is the root of all good. Muraqabah manifests in obedience through action, in disobedience through abstention, and in worries and passing thoughts, as stated in the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "Worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He surely sees you." One only reaches this level after self-reckoning, reforming one's condition, adhering to the truth, and maintaining one's heart's connection with Allah.
