Are certain professions, such as cupping (حجامة), sweeping (فحامة), welding (لحامة), carpentry (نجارة), and blacksmithing (حدادة), considered lowly professions in Islam that prevent intermarriage, even if the suitor is a person of good character, religious commitment, knowledge, and social standing?

Scholars differ on the conditions of compatibility (kafa'ah) in marriage, and the most preponderant view is that compatibility is considered only in character and religion. This is based on Allah’s saying: "Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you," and His saying: "The believers are but a brotherhood." And in the Hadith: "If someone whose religion and character you approve of comes to you [seeking marriage], then marry him." Thus, compatibility in religion is fundamental and essential; therefore, a Muslim woman should not be married to a disbeliever, nor a chaste woman to a dissolute man. A person of good religion and character is compatible with a woman, regardless of her lineage or wealth. Some professions may be considered lowly by custom, but the lowliness or honor of professions varies according to custom, time, and place.
