Is it permissible for the Imam to pray in one place (a room) while the congregants (women) pray in another place (another room) with a barrier between them?

Following the Imam's voice from behind a wall is a matter of scholarly disagreement. The preponderant opinion (rajih) is that it is permissible, especially when there is a need for it. This is established by the practice of the Companions who prayed according to the prayer of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was inside his house. Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that the prayer of the congregant behind the Imam outside the mosque or with an obstruction (حائل), if the rows are connected, is permissible by the agreement of the Imams. If there is a road or a river between them, there are two opinions regarding it. However, if the obstruction prevents sight and passage, there are several opinions, and the preponderant opinion is that it is permissible absolutely when there is a need.
