Did Imam al-Albani acquire his knowledge of Hadith from well-known scholars, and if so, who were they? Or did he acquire his knowledge through reading and research, and how does this reconcile with the saying, "Whoever has his book as his shaykh (teacher), his errors will be more numerous than his correct conclusions"?

Shaykh al-Albani was a scholar and a hadith master who acquired knowledge from a group of shaykhs, including his father Shaykh Nuh al-Albani, Shaykh Sa'id al-Burhani, the great scholar Bahjat al-Baytar, Shaykh Muhammad Raghib al-Tabbakh, and Shaykh Ali al-Tantawi.

A scholar cannot do without consulting books, but he needs precision and foundational understanding. The saying, "Whoever has his book as his shaykh, his errors will be more than his correct opinions," is true for someone who did not learn the fundamentals of the sciences from their experts or who relied on unreliable books.

Shaykh al-Albani studied the fundamentals of the sciences with his shaykhs, possessed keen insight and profound understanding, and relied on the books of trustworthy scholars. He also met and discussed with many scholars, so this saying does not apply to him.
