What is the amount of blood money (Diyya)?

The blood money (Diyya) for a free Muslim is one hundred camels, or two hundred cows, or two thousand sheep, or one thousand gold dinars, or twelve thousand silver dirhams—or ten thousand—or two hundred garments. The fundamental basis for blood money is camels.

Blood money does not increase or decrease based on the type of killing, except in cases of intentional killing, where the blood money in camels is specifically increased and paid in triplicate: 30 ḥiqqah (three-year-old she-camels), 30 jadhaʿah (four-year-old she-camels), and 40 khalifah (pregnant she-camels whose offspring are in their wombs).

The blood money is increased by one-third for the killer if the killing occurred during the sacred months, or within the sacred precinct (Haram), or against a relative. The blood money for a woman is half that of a man.
