Is it permissible to gradually cease masturbating for someone who has become addicted to it?

One must abandon masturbation by striving against the self and seeking assistance from Allah Almighty, and by making abundant supplications, especially during times when prayers are answered, as Allah Almighty says: "And your Lord says, 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you,'" and His saying: "As for those who strive hard in Our cause, We shall most certainly guide them to Our paths; and Allah is indeed with those who do good." It is also permissible to consult trustworthy doctors.
