Suicide is one of the gravest sins, forbidden by Islamic law, and its perpetrator is threatened with hellfire. It is not permissible to commit suicide, no matter how harsh the circumstances, or how great the fear of falling into disbelief or sin. Whoever commits suicide with the intention of dying by drugs is a suicide. As for one who did not intend to die by them, but they led to his death, he is not considered a suicide, but rather one who has committed the grave sin of consuming intoxicants. It is forbidden to wish for death, because if a believer is a good-doer, he may increase in good deeds, and if he is an evildoer, he may repent. Thoughts of suicide indicate despair and lack of faith. A Muslim should turn to Allah through prayer and patience in the face of adversity.
