The answer

If flossing the teeth is for cleaning purposes only, there is no objection to it with a pure, non-harmful thread. However, it does not achieve the Sunnah of the siwak if it does not remove dental plaque. Some jurists have permitted cleaning the teeth with something other than a stick, such as a finger or a cleansing agent, and considered it to fulfill the Sunnah, while others denied it. Whoever cannot find a siwak should clean his mouth with whatever is available to him.
