Is taking food from the hotel breakfast buffet to keep and eat later permissible or forbidden (halal or haram)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Allah Almighty commanded the fulfillment of contracts and conditions and forbade their violation. If the guest agrees with the hotel on breakfast and dinner, their price is included in the paid rent, and thus the guest owns this food.

There are two scenarios for serving meals:

1. If the food is specified by the hotel, the guest has the right to dispose of it as they wish, by eating it or storing it. 2. If the guest has input in determining the type or quantity of food, this is restricted by what is customary for average people in such a hotel. The guest has the right to take what is customary and store whatever they wish from it, because it is food for which value has been paid. As for what exceeds the custom of average people, it is not permissible for them to store it or take it from the buffet to their room.
