Is it permissible to close one's eyes during supplication (Du'a) and remembrance (Dhikr)?

It is not known that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to close his eyes during his acts of worship. Closing the eyes during prayer is disliked (makrooh) except out of necessity, such as the presence of something that distracts the worshipper. If there is a reason to close one's eyes during supplication (du'a) or remembrance (dhikr), then there is no harm in it. However, if there is no reason, then it is better to follow the example of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Scholars have denounced closing the eyes to achieve khushoo' (devotional humility), and Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen considered it disliked except out of necessity, fearing that it might be a deception from Satan. As for closing the eyes unintentionally, there is no harm in it.
