What is the ruling on arranging the recitation of the Holy Quran in terms of verses and surahs, both within and outside of prayer?

It is disliked to recite the surahs out of the order of the Mushaf (reversed order), but it is not forbidden, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) did so. As for reversing the order of the verses, it is forbidden and it is obligatory to arrange them (in their correct order). The Maliki school of thought invalidates the prayer by doing so.
