Searching into apparent matters and following up on declared news is not among the prohibited forms of spying, for that pertains to hidden, internal matters and is intended for evil. As for researching the reasons behind the success of other merchants to benefit from their experiences, there is no harm in it as long as it adheres to the rulings and limits of the Sharia, such as avoiding envy and mutual hatred, and not engaging in transactions that interfere with others' sales. Therefore, collecting apparent information for the purpose of benefiting and engaging in fair competition, without violating privacy or infringing upon rights, is permissible.
