Is it permissible to feed animals expired food or food that is in excess of one's needs?

There is no harm in feeding them expired canned food if it does not harm them, because animals' ability to tolerate spoiled food is stronger than humans', and because Allah has endowed them with senses that enable them to know what is good for them, and canned foods usually include a buffer period.
