Is cooking a large or small quantity of food, with the surplus given to animals, considered extravagance?

Allah has forbidden extravagance and condemned the extravagant, while praising those who are moderate. Extravagance is spending on something that is permissible but in excess of need. Therefore, preparing food in excess of need is religiously condemned extravagance, and it should be avoided by limiting preparation to what is needed. Excess food should be given to neighbors or others, which is better than feeding it to animals. However, feeding it to animals is better than destroying or discarding it.
