There is no objection to a man marrying a woman older than him if she is religious and of good character. The father's consent is not a condition for the validity of the marriage, unlike for a woman. The son should strive to convince his father of his desire to marry. If the father does not respond, the son must weigh achieving his father's desire against pursuing his own, bearing in mind the necessity of avoiding disobedience to the father and angering him, unless his objection is due to the girl's religiosity or uprightness, or if the father is choosing for his son what is not suitable for him.
