The answer

Abortion after the ensoulment is by consensus, and the sin increases if it is done to avert the shame of adultery. If the fetus is separated dead, there is a ghurrah (a male or female slave worth one-tenth of the mother's blood money). If it is separated alive and then dies, there is diyah (blood money) and (expiation). The perpetrator does not inherit anything. Scholars differed on the obligation of kaffarah if it is separated dead, and the Shafi'is and Hanbalis held that it is obligatory. If you participated directly in the abortion, you are a partner in the ghurrah and kaffarah is obligatory upon you. However, if your assistance was limited to providing medication or guidance, then only repentance is obligatory. The ghurrah is borne by the 'aqilah (male kin on the father's side) of the perpetrator.
