Which is the soundest fatwa when there is a disagreement among fatwas regarding the occurrence of divorce?

It is permissible for a layperson to follow a specific madhhab (school of thought) or to consult trustworthy scholars, provided that they do not follow their whims or seek out concessions. If the muftis (those who issue fatwas) differ, and if the layperson possesses sufficient intellect and understanding to distinguish between opinions, then they should inquire about the madhhabs and their proofs and adopt what they deem most probable.
