What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding giving charity on behalf of the deceased after seeing them in a dream?

It is permissible to give charity on behalf of the deceased, either as an initial act or if a dream indicates their need for it. However, the belief that giving charity is obligatory or recommended simply because one sees the deceased in a dream has no basis. Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymin clarified that it is not necessary to give charity on behalf of the deceased if one sees them in a dream. If one sees them in a pleasing state, that is good. If one sees them in an undesirable state, what is prescribed is to seek refuge with Allah from Satan and from the evil of what one has seen, to spit dryly to the left three times, to turn over to the other side, and not to speak of the dream. If it recurs, one should get up, remember Allah, perform ablution, and pray, because Satan is keen to grieve the believer.
