Is ritual purity from major impurity (janabah) in Ramadan recommended or not obligatory, and which is better between not being obligatory and being recommended?

Performing ghusl (ritual bath) after janabah (state of ritual impurity requiring ghusl) before Fajr (dawn) for one who intends to fast is a Sunnah, not a condition. One who states that it is not a condition is correct, and likewise, one who states that it is a Sunnah. Both sayings are correct. This is supported by what was narrated from Aisha and Umm Salamah, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would be overtaken by Fajr while he was in a state of janabah due to his wife, then he would perform ghusl and fast. This is also because Allah permitted intercourse until the breaking of dawn, which necessitates the permissibility of waking up in a state of janabah. The prohibition (if any) is to be understood in this context, or it is abrogated. It is recommended for one in a state of janabah to perform ghusl before Fajr.
