Is it permissible for a Sunni Muslim to participate in Sufi forums to discuss the issue of celebrating the Prophet's birthday and clarifying its impermissibility, and to discuss the issue of the Wasitah Creed and the attributes of Allah Almighty without distortion, misrepresentation, anthropomorphism, modifcation, or denial, and that Al-Istiwa’ (Allah’s elevation above His Throne) is the elevation befitting Allah’s majesty?

Enjoining good and forbidding evil is one of the great rituals of the religion and a collective obligation (fard kifayah), and it requires knowledge. Debating innovators (mubtadi'ah) varies: for their common followers, exposing their specious arguments suffices by clarifying the truth with the fewest words. However, debating their leaders requires training and familiarity with their methods and their manner of argumentation, as well as knowledge of proofs—what is suitable and what is not. This is an art in itself that cannot be mastered by merely reading one book, and debating them might even lead to a trial for the debater.
