Is it permissible to throw bags or papers with the names of the Companions written on them into the trash?
Every name revered by Islamic law must be protected from degradation. Therefore, discarding anything that contains the names of Allah, or the Prophets, or the Angels into filth with the intention of insult is an act of disbelief (kufr). As for the names of the Companions, discarding them with the intention of insulting them is forbidden (haram), and discarding them without the intention of insult is disliked (makruh), especially if they are associated with the remembrance of Allah or the Prophet. However, if the name is common or refers to something else, there is no dislike.
