If a disbeliever commits adultery and then embraces Islam, is the hadd punishment applied to him?

If a Dhimmi commits adultery and then embraces Islam, and evidence is established for his adultery, the hadd (prescribed punishment) is dropped from him. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "Say to those who disbelieve, if they cease, what has passed will be forgiven them" (Qur'an 8:38), and on the Prophet's saying (peace be upon him): "Islam demolishes what came before it." Furthermore, the text of the Qur'an indicates that the hadd is dropped for the thief and the highway robber if they repent. Moreover, imposing the hadd would deter people from embracing Islam.
