What is the ruling on a group of young men agreeing that the one who loses a challenge on a specific matter will pay for everyone's lunch?

What transpires between you in terms of challenges that result in loss or gain is not permissible. That is gambling, which is when the doer oscillates between gaining and losing. Young people should elevate themselves above such things, for their wounded Ummah is in greater need of other things from them.
