What is the ruling on delaying the burial of the deceased? Is it permissible for a widow to leave the house during her 'iddah (waiting period)? What should be written on the grave, and is it permissible to write Qur'anic verses? Does the spirit of the deceased return to visit the house? And must the deceased's will to sell land he owns be executed?

It is legislated to hasten the preparation of the deceased. A woman observing her iddah (waiting period) is permitted to leave her home to fulfill a need, but she must not spend the night anywhere but in her home. Writing on a grave is disliked (makrooh), and writing Qur'anic verses on it is forbidden (haram). There is no evidence to support the return of the deceased's soul to their family's home, and the heirs are not obligated to carry out the deceased's will to sell the land.
