What is the ruling on swearing by divorce to affirm an oath to abandon forbidden acts, and how can one retract it, and what is the obligatory expiation, and what is the ruling on imagining intercourse with one's wife until reaching climax without touching the penis?

The majority of scholars hold that swearing by divorce results in divorce upon breaking the oath, and this is the prevalent fatwa (definition). However, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is of the view that if the intention was not divorce, but rather a threat or an affirmation, then an expiation for an oath (kaffarat yamin (definition)) is due, and divorce does not occur. If you break your oath, an expiation for an oath is binding upon you, and your divorce takes effect. It is obligatory upon you to abandon what is unlawful and to be righteous in your oath. Swearing by divorce is not legislated and is among the oaths of the dissolute. Using oaths to compel oneself to abstain from certain matters is not a sound approach. Imagining intercourse with one's wife until ejaculation occurs is not sinful if ejaculation happens merely through imagination without the use of a hand or other means.
