The answer

Eating excessively is absolutely disliked (makrooh), and it becomes forbidden (haraam) if it leads to harm. The Sunnah is for the stomach to be divided into three parts: one-third for food, one-third for drink, and one-third for air, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: «Sufficient for the son of Adam are a few morsels that keep his back straight. But if he must, then one-third for his food, one-third for his drink, and one-third for his breath.» It is permissible to eat more than one-third as long as it does not cause harm. However, excessive eating, accompanied by fear of harm and indigestion, is forbidden.
