The answer

Scholars hold two opinions on this matter: The first is the obligation of making up the missed fasts consecutively if the breaking of the fast was consecutive, such as due to menstruation. The second opinion, which is the more preponderant one, is that consecutive making up is not obligatory, based on the Almighty’s saying: ﴿فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ﴾ (then a number of other days), and the verse did not stipulate consecutive making up. Consecutive making up is recommended for fear of death before completing the make-up fasts. This opinion was adopted by a group of companions and is the of the majority of scholars.
