Is it permissible for a righteous woman to be an example for her son and for men?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Taking righteous individuals as role models, both men and women, is generally permissible. Allah has recounted to us stories of women that contain lessons, and the Sunnah mentions the virtues of female companions. There is no evidence to differentiate between men and women in this regard.

It is permissible for a man to emulate a righteous woman, and vice versa, by adopting good deeds and noble character, provided that such emulation is within what is permissible. Excluded are matters specific to one gender's rulings (such as a woman praying in her home).

It is also a condition that this does not lead to temptation, such as a man mixing with an unrelated woman.
