Why did the man whom Al-Ma'mun brought flee from saying that Allah knows, even though Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah believe that Allah knows, and "Allah is Knowing of all things"?

The debate between Imam Abd al-Aziz and Bishr al-Marisi concerning the attribute of Allah's knowledge: Imam Abd al-Aziz asked al-Marisi if he affirmed that Allah possesses knowledge, as stated in the Quran. Al-Marisi evaded the question by saying, "The meaning of His knowledge is that He is not ignorant." Imam Abd al-Aziz explained that this was an evasion because he did not first affirm the existence of knowledge. And had he affirmed it, the next question would have been whether Allah's knowledge is created or not, which contradicts the doctrine of the Mu'tazili Jahmiyyah in denying Allah's attributes and only affirming absolute existence. As for the Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, they affirm for Allah the attribute of knowledge and all His attributes as mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, without distortion, negation, anthropomorphism, or resemblance.
