What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a wife who lied to her husband about a previous relationship during her adolescence out of fear of divorce?

It is not permissible for the husband to question his wife about her past. She must inform her husband that she lied to him and ask him what he meant by the prohibition. If he intended divorce, then a divorce has occurred. If it was the first or second divorce, he may take her back before the iddah (waiting period) ends. If he intended dhihar (a statement by which a husband likens his wife to an unmarriageable female relative), then he must pay the expiation for dhihar. If he did not intend divorce or dhihar, then he must pay the expiation for an oath. The woman can ease the matter for her husband and explain to him that a person is not held accountable for a past from which they have repented.
