Is it permissible to suffice with having only two children?
Islam encourages having many children, due to the worldly and otherworldly good it brings to parents and the Ummah. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged marriage to the loving and fertile woman, and clarified that the prayer of a righteous child reaches their parents after their death.
Prohibiting birth control and cutting it off absolutely, especially if the reason is fear of poverty. An exception to this is a proven necessity, such as a danger to the mother's life, or delaying pregnancy for a benefit seen by the spouses. As for merely wishing for it, there is no accountability for that, but it should not be acted upon, because a large progeny is a legitimate objective of marriage.
