What is the ruling on dealing with usurious banks by keeping an amount of 1000 dirhams to avoid withdrawal fees, and how should the interest from this amount and the interest from an Islamic bank be dealt with, and are there truly Islamic banks?
If it is possible to transfer the salary directly to an Islamic bank, then that should be done. If it is not possible, then there is no harm in it being deposited in an interest-based (riba-based) bank, but it must be withdrawn immediately upon deposit, even if that results in a small deduction. This deducted amount is considered as payment for the usurious interest. As for the interest accrued on the previous amount in the bank, it should be spent on the general welfare of Muslims. The principal amount in the bank should be included with other funds for zakat purposes if it reaches the nisab and a year has passed over it.
