Good omens (fal) refer to good words heard by a Muslim. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, liked good omens and disliked bad omens (tiyarah). He loved good omens because they stem from having a good opinion of Allah, unlike pessimism. A believer is commanded to have a good opinion of Allah. Examples of this include his, peace and blessings be upon him, naming of Suhayl ibn Amr upon his arrival as "May your affair be eased" (sahhala amrakum), and his naming of "Ya'ish" (meaning 'he lives') to milk the she-camel instead of "Murrah" (meaning 'bitterness') or "Jamrah" (meaning 'embers'). He also loved to hear "O successful one, O guided one, O blessed one" when he was going to fulfill a need.
