What is the ruling on selling decorative statues?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is impermissible to buy or sell statues of animate beings (humans, animals, birds), because they are inherently forbidden, as is their price, and because they are not among things from which permissible benefit can be derived. As for statues of inanimate objects, there is no harm in them. The prohibition includes decorative statues and others, and it is not permissible to keep them because they prevent angels from entering, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture." This ruling also applies to hand-drawn images. One must seek another occupation instead of earning from unlawful means.
