What is the religious ruling on a poor young man marrying a rich girl, and should he propose now or establish himself financially, and is he entitled to ask his rich father to help him marry?
It is permissible for a poor man to marry a wealthy woman, despite some advice against marrying someone of higher financial or social standing for fear of future problems. However, this is not always a strict rule, especially if the circumstances of both families are similar. It is permissible for a father to help his poor son with marriage and its expenses; in fact, some scholars have gone so far as to say that it is obligatory for a wealthy father to do so if the son is in need of marriage. Therefore, there is no blame on a young man for asking his father for marriage, and he should hasten to it as it helps in the chastity of young people.
