What is the ruling on being proud of one's homeland, and what are its controls?
Love of one's homeland is a human فطرة (innate disposition). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Mecca: "How good you are and how beloved you are to me! Had your people not expelled me from you, I would not have dwelled anywhere else." It is permissible for a Muslim to take pride in their Muslim country, provided that this does not lead to fanaticism or belittling the homelands of other Muslims, for that is a path to evil and corruption.
