When does a woman consider herself pure, and when does she consider herself to be menstruating (ḥāʾiḍ) or suffering from irregular bleeding (mustaḥāḍah), given a disturbed menstrual cycle that includes days of red blood, complete cessation, brownish discharge (kudrah), yellowish discharge (ṣufrah), and the appearance of the white discharge (qaṣṣah al-bayḍāʾ) sometimes and its absence at other times? And are her prayers and fasting valid in these cases?

If the duration of menstruation increases to five days, these five days are considered menstruation, and ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) and prayer become obligatory upon seeing dryness. Any yellowish or brownish discharge after that is not considered menstruation if it occurs outside the usual period and is not connected to blood, regardless of whether a white discharge (qassah bayda’) is seen or not. The days of menstruation are only those days in which blood is seen.
