What is the interpretation of the noble verse: "And Pharaoh, possessor of stakes (or pegs)"?

Some of the early righteous scholars (Salaf Salih) interpreted (الأوتاد) "al-awtad" (stakes) in the noble verse as the soldiers and men who strengthened Pharaoh's rule. Indeed, in the interpretations of Al-Tabari and Ibn Kathir, it is reported from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he said: "Al-awtad: the soldiers who strengthened his rule." The intended meaning of "al-awtad" here refers to the pillars of his kingdom. Some said: He would tie a man by each of his limbs to a stake, then drop a large rock on him, thereby splitting him. According to this interpretation: he used the known stakes for torturing people.
