What is the ruling on dedicating supplication solely to invoking blessings upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, while maintaining the prescribed remembrances and supplications?

Al-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, and others narrated the Hadith of Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "How much of my supplication should I dedicate to you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "As much as you wish, but if you increase it, it will be better for you." Until Ubayy said: "Should I dedicate all my suppellations to you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then you will be spared your worries and your sins will be forgiven." A number of scholars have graded this Hadith as good (Hasan) and authentic (Sahih).

The word "supplication" (salat) in the Hadith refers to du'a (invocation). The meaning of "Should I dedicate all my supplications to you?" is: "Should I devote all the time of my personal invocations to sending blessings upon you?" The reason for being spared worries and having sins forgiven is that sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) includes the remembrance and glorification of Allah, the glorification of the Messenger, and compliance with Allah's command, which brings great reward and the blessings of Allah and His angels upon the one who sends blessings. These benefits surpass what is obtained from supplicating for oneself.

The Hadith does not mean prohibiting supplication for oneself entirely. Rather, it is an encouragement to frequently send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), without abandoning legitimate invocations. Ubayy ibn Ka'b used to have a specific supplication that he would make, so he asked about replacing it with sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Some scholars have weakened this Hadith due to the presence of Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil in its chain of narration. However, those scholars who authenticated it believe that the context of the Hadith requires it to be understood as Ubayy ibn Ka'b having a specific supplication he would make, and if he replaced it with sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah would suffice him for whatever concerned him.
