Is a marriage contracted without the wife's presence or the witnesses hearing her consent valid according to Islamic law?

A woman's marriage without her guardian's permission is invalid and impermissible. It is considered a manipulation of the solemn covenant of marriage and must be rectified by re-contracting the marriage in the presence of her guardian and witnesses. Based on the noble prophetic traditions, there is no marriage without a guardian, and the view of Abu Hanifa's madhhab does not change this ruling. Sheikh Ahmad Shakir said: "The hadith ('There is no marriage except with a guardian') is an authentic hadith, established by chains of narration that almost reach the level of a moral tawatur, necessitating certainty in its meaning."
