What is meant by praying upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), verbally or in deed, and how can one avoid what displeases God?

Praying upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, means supplicating for him with a specific formula and exalting his status.

Prayer from Allah means His mercy and praise; from the angels, it means supplication and seeking forgiveness; and from the Ummah, it means supplication, seeking forgiveness, and exalting his status.

Avoiding what displeases Allah is achieved through fearing His punishment and hoping for His reward, and these are the two wings of a believer, as stated in the verse: "Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]?"
