Is praying half an hour after the Fajr adhan, and one hour and ten minutes before sunrise, in accordance with the Sunnah?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The legal time for the Fajr prayer begins at the emergence of true dawn and extends until sunrise. It is preferable to perform it early, while it is still dark (ghalas), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to do. He would pray it while ghalas is the mixing of the light of dawn with the darkness of night. This is the view of Malik and Al-Shafi'i, in contrast to Abu Hanifa, who believes it is better to perform it when it is already light (isfar).
