Is it permissible to pay Zakat on money with in-kind items or by purchasing and slaughtering camels?

The gist of the fatwa:

The majority of scholars hold that zakat must be given from the same type of wealth on which it is due, and that its monetary value is not sufficient except in the case of trade goods. However, some scholars, such as Abu Hanifa, permitted giving the monetary value if it benefits the poor. He held that anything permissible as charity is permissible to be given as zakat, whether it is from the same type of wealth on which zakat is due or not.
